What is the Canadian Dental Care Program?
Who Qualifies for the CDCP?
Lack of Dental Insurance: You must not have any form of dental insurance.
Income Threshold: Your adjusted family net income must be less than $90,000.
Residency: You must be a Canadian resident for tax purposes.
Tax Return: You must have filed your tax return in the previous year.
What Dental Services Are Covered?
Preventive Services: Regular check-ups, cleanings, fluoride treatments, and sealants to prevent cavities.
Diagnostic Services: Examinations, consultations, and X-rays to diagnose dental issues.
Restorative Services: Fillings, crowns, and other treatments to repair damaged teeth.
Endodontic Services: Root canal therapy to save infected teeth.
Prosthodontic Services: Dentures and partial dentures to replace missing teeth.
Periodontal Services: Treatments for gum disease, including deep cleanings.
Oral Surgery Services: Tooth extractions and other minor surgical procedures.
How to Apply for the CDCP?
Receive an Invitation: The government will roll out the program in phases, starting with seniors. You will receive an invitation letter with a personalized application code.You must not have any form of dental insurance.
Confirm Eligibility: Use the application code to confirm your eligibility through a phone application.
Update Contact Information: Ensure your contact information is current with the Canada Revenue Agency to receive your invitation.
Rollout Schedule for the Canadian Dental Care Program
Seniors Aged 87 and Older: Starting December 2023
Seniors Aged 77 to 86: Starting January 2024
Seniors Aged 72 to 76: Starting January 2024
Seniors Aged 70 to 71: Starting March 2024
Seniors Aged 65 to 69: Starting May 2024
Adults with a Valid Disability Tax Credit Certificate: Starting June 2024
Children Under the Age of 18: Starting June 2024
All Remaining Eligible Canadian Residents: Starting January 2025
Coverage and Co-Payment Structure
No Co-Payment: Families with an income under $70,000 will not have to make any co-payments.
40% Co-Payment: Families with an income between $70,000 and $79,999 will be responsible for 40% of the treatment cost.
60% Co-Payment: Families with an income between $80,000 and $89,999 will be responsible for 60% of the treatment cost.
